Waterbom Bali Review – Is it worth visiting with kids?

If you’re visiting Bali with kids, chances are Waterbom Bali is already on your radar — and for good reason. This world-famous waterpark consistently ranks as one of the top waterparks in the world, with awards from TripAdvisor and global travel sites recognising it for safety, cleanliness, and family-friendly design.

We visited Waterbom Bali with our kids during our extended stay in Bali, and it quickly became one of their favourite days out on the island. This review shares exactly what our day looked like, what we spent, which rides were best for different ages, and real parent tips we learned along the way.

Waterbom isn’t the noisy, chaotic waterpark experience you might imagine. It’s beautifully landscaped, extremely clean (honestly, there are staff going round cleaning ALL DAY LONG), and surprisingly relaxing for adults — even on busier days.

Where is Waterbom Bali?

Waterbom Bali is based in Kuta, one of the main tourist destinations in Bali. Kuta is located in the South of the island, close to the airport. It’s long stretch of beach has made it Bali’s biggest tourist hotspot, with loads of accommodation options, eateries and fun-filled attractions.

If you’re based in Kuta or the South of the island you’ll find that Waterbom is an easy Grab/Gojek ride away (the local versions of Uber).

From further afield in Ubud (where we were based) or Sanur on the East Coast it’s a longer trip. It took us around 1hr 15mins from Ubud (and much longer on the way back due to the terrible Bali traffic!).

How much are tickets for Waterbom?

You can book tickets in advance on the Waterbom website or via GetYourGuide if you like to book via a third party. Generally online tickets come in with a discount compared to buying tickets on the gate.

At the time of writing, tickets are priced at:

• Children (2-11 years old): IDR365,500 (c.US$23)
• Adults: IDR493,000 (c.US$30.50)
• Family (2 adults and 2 children): IDR1,581,000 (c.US$98)

Tickets only include entry; expect to pay extra for lockers and rental towels if you need them. You can also rent private gazebos for the day at an extra cost (which are absolutely lovely!).

Bags are checked (quite thoroughly) on arrival and no food or drink (except bottled water) are allowed. This does mean that you will need to budget for lunch/snacks at the park in addition to the entry fees.

We spent a total of US$60 on lunch for five people (in the food court area, which was the cheapest option) plus drinks and one scoop of ice-cream each.

Our Experience: Visiting Waterbom With Kids

We visited Waterbom during our time living in Bali with the kids enrolled in an international school. Everyone we spoke to — local families, long-term expats, short-term holidaymakers — told us the same thing:

“You have to go at least once.”

They were absolutely right.

From the moment we arrived, things were smooth and well-organised. We checked in quickly, topped up our cashless wristbands, and grabbed a shaded spot near the kids’ zone. The kids were in the water within minutes.

What stood out most to us:

• It was much cleaner than we expected
• Staff were friendly and safety-focused
• Shady areas were easy to find
• Food was better than typical theme-park food
• Queues were short when we arrived early

For families visiting Bali for the first time, Waterbom is one of the easiest, most reliable, and most universally loved activities.

What are the rides like at Waterbom?

There was a great range of flumes and water slides for all of us. They have the terrifying floor-drop style chutes that drop you vertically at high speed – so fab for adrenalin junkies. Then they also have the mat racer slides which older, more confident kids will love. Plus there are a number of inflatable ring slides that vary in speed and fear levels.

We all really enjoyed these – there are ones that go through pitch black sections of tunnel, some with disco lighting, a boomerang style flume that shoots you up and back down at speed, and several with stomach-churning drops.

If the adrenaline stuff isn’t for you then there is a really great lazy river that we all loved. Lazy enough for the grown-ups to chill out but fun enough (with various fountains and waterfalls) for the boys to enjoy too. The lazy river snakes through some lush greenery and they’ve taken care to make the waterfalls look natural, which makes floating along it a really lovely experience. I do love a good lazy river!

There are several pools, including a large lagoon with a swim-up bar and a big water playground for younger kids.

All in all there’s a great selection of rides and also lots of space around the park to chill out or have a gentle swim when the rides get a bit much!

Ride Guide for Families (By Age & Height)

One of the biggest questions parents have is “Which rides can my kids go on?”

Here’s a breakdown based on our experience and Waterbom’s height requirements.

✔️ Best for Toddlers (Under 100cm)

Aquaplay
A dedicated splash area with shallow water, mini slides, tipping buckets, and soft surfaces.
Parent notes: This area is shaded and lifeguard-supervised. Ideal for younger children.

✔️ Best for Young Kids (100–120cm)

Zuluu Hill
A bundle of six slides in a jungle themed area specifically designed for younger kids. The minimum height is 80cm, and there’s a maximum height here of 150cm.
Parent notes: Parents are allowed to ride with their kids on these slides

Lazy River
Great for all ages — float gently past palms and waterfalls. Probably the best lazy river we’ve tried out!

Python (with adults)
A big inflatable raft slide. Our kids LOVED this and rode multiple times. Four people can fit in to one raft so this is great for family groups.
Height: 100cm with an adult.

Mini Boomerang
Shoot down and then swing back up again – but with a bit less speed and power of the full size boomerang rides.
Height: 91cm with an adult.

Tailspin
140m of fun – shoot down the speedy drops and then spin round and round in the bowl.
Height: 122cm

✔️ Best for Tweens & Teens (120cm+)

Twin Racers
Side-by-side mat racing slide — great for siblings.

Constrictor
Smooth, enclosed spiralling slide.
Height: 122cm (lighter kids may slow down).

Green Viper
Fun for confident riders; enclosed sections and dips.

Fast n Fierce
Another twin racer option (but without mats this time) – and it is VERY fast.

The Drop
Ride in rings either solo or in pairs along this speedy slide – the final drop is over 9m high!

Pipeline
A clear tunnel gives you an awesome view over the whole park (NB – it’s VERY high up!)

✔️ For Absolute Thrill-Seekers (Adult & Teen)

The Climax
A near-vertical drop. Riders stand in an enclosed box at the top of the ride, then a terrifying countdown kicks in before the floor disappears beneath you. The bravest of the brave only.

Smashdown 2.0
Another vertical drop capsule. Terrifying. Teens will love it.

Boomerang
A giant half-pipe swish that makes your stomach flip. The drop is near vertical and not for the faint-hearted!

Other things we loved about Waterbom Bali

The whole park feels very well-run – there are plenty of (very helpful) staff and a feeling of space that a lot of waterparks lack. We visited in the school Easter holidays and while there were plenty of people, it was easy to get a row of sun loungers together and the pools always had plenty of space to swim around in.

Most of the day we queued for no more than a few minutes for the flumes. The longest we queued was around 20minutes, which was at the peak of the day.

And a special mention for the fabulous staff who spend the day spraying cold water on to the surfaces around the park. This is one of the only waterparks we’ve visited where you don’t feel like your feet are going to melt everytime you walk between slides!

Food & Drink at Waterbom

We were pleasantly surprised by the food quality. Options include:

• Pizza
• Indonesian dishes
• Salads
• Fresh smoothies
• Kids’ meals

We also liked that the food area had fans and shaded seating — very child-friendly.

The food – whilst not cheap – is fantastic (rare for a waterpark in our experience!). The food court has loads of options – even fussy eaters will find something. Portions were a decent size and the quality was excellent. So much so that we didn’t actually feel too bad about spending our cash (something which we would normally try to avoid on days out that already come with a hefty price tag).

Tip: Portions are big — sharing works well for families.

How the Cashless System Works

Everything inside Waterbom is purchased using a wristband:

1. Top it up at the entrance
2. Tap to pay for food, lockers, towels, drinks
3. Refund any leftover balance before leaving (don’t forget this bit!)

It makes things super easy and removes the need to carry a wallet.

Parent Tips to Make Your Day Easier

These made a big difference for us:

• Arrive at opening to avoid queues and secure shaded spots
• Book a gazebo if you want privacy and guaranteed shade
• Bring your own towels to avoid rental fees
• Ride the big slides first, then return to the family areas
• Eat lunch before midday
• Avoid weekends if possible
• Don’t bring food or drinks — you can only bring water
• If you’re taking a GoPro make sure you don’t have a float/stick attachment as these are not allowed on the rides

Is Waterbom Worth It?

For us — absolutely.

Our kids still talk about Waterbom as one of their favourite Bali days. As parents, we appreciated:

• Clean facilities
• Shade everywhere
• Genuinely friendly staff
• Great food
• Rides for every age
• A relaxing environment even during busy times
