ABOUT US

OUR STORY
We are a travel-loving, campervan-driving family of four from just outside Sheffield in the UK. We are Julia (Mum, Chief Travel Planner and writer of this blog), Steve (Dad and Chief Food Sampler), Griffin (11-years-old and Head of Tech) and Angus (9-years-old and Head of Adventure).
Pre-kids we took two long blocks of time ‘out’ to travel (we do love a good gap year!), exploring Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the US. We also travelled as much as possible around our regular 9-5 jobs, visiting Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, South Africa, Cuba, Canada and big chunks of Europe.
Since having the boys we have travelled around the UK and Europe over the last few years in our campervan, but took the step of leaving our ‘normal’ lives behind for a year in October 2023 and travelling the world full-time as a family. This adventure took us to the beaches and Mayan ruins of Mexico, the jungle of Costa Rica, right the way around South East Asia and on a loop through Europe in our beloved campervan.
We world-schooled on the way round and the boys learnt about ecosystems, religions, cultural differences, flora and fauna, historical events and more in an immersive, up-close and personal way.
When we were planning our mega-trip I found the experiences of other families incredibly helpful so wanted to share our journey (including the all-important costs involved – too often not discussed openly!).
I found the whole concept of schooling on the road really daunting so I share more detailed information on how we managed this, as it’s definitely something that developed during our time travelling as we increased in confidence and saw first-hand the benefits of world-schooling for our children.
We firmly believe that there is more to life than the daily grind and are on a mission now to build an exciting, joy-filled life for our little family. And we want to share all of the ups and downs, hints and tips and general info with you!
We write honest reviews of the places we’ve been, the things we’ve done and what we think works best for family travel. If you’re planning a family gap year or any kind of family adventure travel then our aim is to help you know that you CAN do all of this with kids!
So wherever you are in your travel-planning journey, sit down, grab a brew and have a read through our experiences on the road. If like us you like the idea of living a bit differently then hopefully we can provide some inspiration!
