Like the rest of Vietnam, Phu Quoc has some absolutely delicious food on offer. And so much of it is terrific value! There are many, many options for restaurants, beach-front bars and street food stalls. If you’re wondering where to get the best food in Phu Quoc (especially with kids) then read some of our recommendations below.

Phở Hòa (for the best pho!)
This little gem of a restuarant has a fairly decent-sized menu but it’s the delicious pho noodle soups that win the day here. The giant steaming bowls of pho are amazing, and a steal at Vd50,000-80,000 (£1.50-£2.40). We found that pho was a big hit with our boys – like lots of the food in Vietnam you add your own veg and chilis, which means that it can satisfy even picky eaters. All of us loved the pho here – it was definitely some of the best food we had in Phu Quoc. And probably the best pho we had anywhere in Vietnam!
Be aware that the service here is pretty slow (everything is made fresh and by a one-person team!). But it’s worth the wait!
Vida Loca Sunset Beach Resort
The bar in this low-key resort sits right on a glorious stretch of beach. It has chairs and tables on the sand, along with sunloungers (that you can rent for a fee). It also has swings and a big basket of beach toys for the kids.
The food here is more expensive than the restaurants and street food stalls strung along the road (as you would expect for the location). But it’s still good value for a treat with a fabulous view! Main meals come in at around Vd120,000 to Vd200,000 (around £3.50-£6) and they have both Western and Asian options.
If you don’t want to eat you can just grab yourselves a cold drink and watch the sunset. Their juices are tasty and during happy hour (which runs until 5pm) they offer 2-for-1 deals (juices are typically around Vd60,000). We loved getting a few juices and chilling out here in the afternoons. The boys could happily spend hours sipping on a juice and playing with the beach toys!
Bếp An Restaurant
Bun Cha Ha Noi is a noodle dish that originates in Hanoi. There are a couple of places in Phu Quoc that specialise in this – we visited this one and the food was great!
Bun Cha Ha Noi is served up as a broth with pork patties, with rice noodles, veg/fresh herbs and a very tasty sauce on the side. You can also opt for the version that includes fried spring rolls as well (Bun Cha Dac Biet). I went for this at Bếp An and it was fresh and absolutely delicious! Our total bill for a family of four came in at Vd470,000 (approximately £15 at the time of writing). The Bun Cha Ha Noi was VD50,000, the Bun Cha Dac Biet was Vd70,000 and a Chicken Pho came in at Vd50,000. They also have much more on the menu, including a selection of Banh Mi, noodles and soups.

Banh Mi stands
There are Banh Mi stalls everywhere in Phu Quoc. If you’ve never sampled a Banh Mi, you’re in for a cheap, quick and easy meal! Banh Mi is essentially a baguette filled with (usually) pate, cucumber, pickles and a choice of main filling (typically pork, meatballs or fried eggs).
A banh mi will set you back around Vd20,000-50,000. Again, they were a great option for the boys as you can choose whether to add chili sauce so you can make it as spicy (or not!) as you like.
Juice bar (next to An Thien Retreat)
This tiny spot (it doesn’t even have a name!) is a real hidden gem worth hunting out. Down a small side street, they serve absolutely delicious smoothies and juices every day of the week, from morning until late in the evening. We particularly loved the watermelon, orange and grapefruit juices and the avocado and pineapple smoothies.
Juices are Vd20,000 and smoothies are Vd25,000, which is an absolute steal. We loved these tasty treats so much that we visited pretty much every day during our stay!
O Bon Pain – French Bakery
If you fancy a break from all the delicious Vietnamese food, check out this little bakery in Duong Dong. It has savoury baked goods like Croque Monsieur, French bread pizza and stuffed croissants. But it’s the sweet cakes and pastries that are worth visiting for! They have banana bread, caramelised apple pies, brownies, giant cookies and more.
The decked area at the back of the bakery looks right out across the sea so is a great place to retreat from the heat (or the rain!) or watch the sunset.
They have some great reviews on TripAdvisor here.
Nhà Xưa 68
Another Vietnamese dish that is worth seeking out is the traditional fish hotpot, or sour soup. This a dish traditional to the South of Vietnam and is basically a giant hot pan of (usually) fish soup that also includes pineapple and a plethora of veggies. It’s a very unique flavour that is definitely worth trying!
The hot pans of soup are pretty huge, so with the big serving of rice on the side will feed a family of four easily. At Nhà Xưa 68 it’s between Vd98,000 and Vd138,000 per soup (around £3-4.50). This is a lovely little restaurant that is off the beaten tourist track and serves mostly locals (you might just need Google Translate to place your order!).
Street Food Stalls
There are dozens and dozens of street food stalls along the main road through Duong Dong. We had some really good pho, hot plate beef, Vietnamese pancakes and more from these. They are incredibly cheap (you can feed a family of four for less than Vd200,000). They really come to life in the evenings when the tiny chairs and tables are set out across the pavement. Some of the best food in Phu Quoc can be found at these stalls, so give them a try!
Self-catering?
If you’ve got kitchen facilities and want to cook for yourself then there is a big supermarket on the main road in Duong Dong called King Kong Market. This place stocks all the Asian staples but also has Western food on offer (including pasta, sauces, cereal and the like). It also has freshly baked bread and cakes, and a big fruit and veg section.
